The realities
Mostly desk-based and collaborative; constant learning as tools change. Deadlines and on-call duties exist in some roles. Strong remote and international mobility.
The usual route in India
B.Tech/B.E. in Computer Science or related branch (4 years), or BCA/B.Sc Computer Science (3–4 years) followed by projects, internships or an MCA/M.Tech.
Other routes: Students from any stream with Mathematics can often enter via BCA or B.Sc programmes; a strong project portfolio matters greatly in hiring.
